Blumenthal• The word dinner comes from the 13th century French word disner (dee-nay) which stood for breakfast and developed into the main meal of the day. The evolution of the word reflected social and economic changes. Dinner was originally eaten in the middle of the day, and as people could afford candles in the 1700’s it moved forward and with gaslights and electricity became later still

• Lunch served from 12 noon to 2.30pm, Dinner from 6.30pm to 10.30pm

• Dinner by Heston Blumenthal has magnificent views over Hyde Park and is reached from the lobby of Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London

Executive Chef

• The kitchen will be headed by Ashley Palmer-Watts, who has worked with Heston Blumenthal at The Fat Duck for ten years as Group Executive Chef

Modern and Historic British

• The menu will comprise of simple modern dishes, inspired by our historic gastronomic past and celebrating the very best of British produce. Heston Blumenthal and Ashley Palmer-Watts, have been working with food historians and the British Library, researching our much celebrated British culinary history. The result will be dishes inspired by recipes dating as far back as the 16th century

• Contemporary and innovative with an understanding of tradition to reflect Heston’s vision, and including floor to ceiling glass walls between the kitchen and dining room

• A unique feature is the pulley system modelled on a 16th century design for the Royal British Court’s kitchens resembling the craftsmanship of an oversized watch, mechanically rotating a spit over an open fire
